About Celebrant Ceremonies

What does a celebrant actually do?

A celebrant writes and delivers ceremonies that aren't tied to a religion or a fixed script. That means weddings, funerals, naming ceremonies, vow renewals, memorials and anything else that marks a moment in life. I sit down with you, find out who you are (or who your loved one was), and write a ceremony that genuinely fits.

Bookings and Working Together

How far in advance should I book?

Weddings: ideally six to twelve months out, especially for peak summer dates. That said, I do shorter-notice ceremonies too, so always ask.

Funerals: usually within a week or two, often arranged through a funeral director. Get in touch as soon as you're ready.

Namings: a couple of months ahead is plenty, though earlier is welcome.

On the Day

Can we include rituals like handfasting or candle lighting?

Yes, and I love it when couples do. Handfasting, candle lighting, sand ceremonies, ring warming, the placing of meaningful items, family promises, you name it. Tell me what you're drawn to and we'll make it work.

Funerals Specifically

Can we choose our own celebrant?

Yes. Families don't have to use whoever the funeral director suggests. You're allowed to choose, and a funeral director will work happily with any celebrant you bring in.
